My Biography

Matthew Schlicht’s intense passion for music has been present for the entirety of his life. He began playing piano and composing music at the young age of 7. Since his childhood, it has been his goal to write and perform music that moves people and ignites their own passion. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Musical Studies with concentrations in Music Theory and Piano Pedagogy from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam in 2020. He now resides in Sprakers, NY and is looking to pursue a Master’s degree in Piano Performance.

Teaching Philosophy

I have always thought that learning music should be a challenging, fun, and exciting experience. With this mindset, I want to ensure that my students are receiving what they want out of the lessons primarily. The student and I will craft a plan together that sets a path that is challenging, encouraging, and will allow them to achieve their short and long term goals.

I believe that all aspects of music making are crucial to our study of it. All of my students will have the experience of practicing, performing, writing, actively listening to, and analyzing music. Some of these experiences will be very new, and some will be utterly familiar. Ultimately, however, I want these experiences to open new doors for the student and give them the tools to pursue their love for music in a way that enriches their life.
